the modern collective

I've been reading this blog for a while now and these kids are definitely on to a good thing.

The Modern Collective is a film Project by a buddy of mine Kai Neville and his unique angle on the modern surf film is insanely refreshing.

Working under the guidance of legend Taylor Steele, the Modern Collective is Kai's first major project. And if what he did with the leftovers of Steele's 'Stranger than Fiction' flick 'Days of the Strange' is anything to go by, plus this little teaser the boys are almost turning this into a cult.

The same way that Taylor defined a generation with the Momentum series, Kai and the rest of the rat pack of salty hair scoundrels (Dion Agius, Jordy Smith, Dusty Payne, Mitch Coleburn, Yadin Nichol & Dane Reynolds) are defining surfing's progression and screaming the voice of generation now. These lads are as smooth on land as they are in the water... And people want in.

The future of surf films is in good hands.

little to win, but nothin' to loose

So i want to begin by saying that i always start things with the best of intentions. Always. Its like my own little personal motto. If i dont i feel weird and everything usually goes to shit fairly quickly.

Over the last few days i've been trying to think of something to write. Sunday's little gem came to me during the afternoon haze in my friends backyard, well, you know the rest. But this week, nothin', zip, nada. Its like my brain has been in the clouds all week long. And everything i find online that im stoked on is already everywhere and of no real relevance anymore. Are my investigative skills that lame? God i hope not or im going to waste a lot of pretend people time.... (Apart from you Snowpea. Mwah!)

I think this funk has come from the situation im in right now. Im basically killing time at a place i've mentally checked out from. My old job. However, i still have just over 2 more weeks to go on my agreement.

At the start i thought i'd be able to handle it (there is that best of intentions ref), ya'know, make the most of the time i have left there, after all the people there are pretty rad and we all get along great. But now, to be honest, its just getting tedious. Im not really interested in what's going on. It's difficult trying to focus on the future when you are stuck in a stagnant now. Its seems as though all my good vibes from last week have been soaked up by a place that doesn't warrant them anymore and its starting to bug me....

But, nothing can be done about it right now. Its feeding my ability to have fun for the last few weeks im in America. Which is awesome....

Anyways tomorrow is FRIDAY so the weekend draws near. Time to release. Yay!

Hopefully a good candle burning will spark the mind....

Happy Easter Y'all.

sunday on my mind

The unofficial, yet world renowned day of rest just came and went for me... And it was an amazing day. Low 70's and not a cloud in the sky, me on a blanket under a tree with friends listening to jazz.....

It got me thinking....

In an in-direct, but totally High Fidelity influenced post, here is my top 5 Sunday Jazz/Motown playlist (in no particular order):

Dave Brubeck: Take 5
John Coltrane & Miles Davis: 'Round Midnight
Louis Armstrong: Mack the Knife
Louis Armstrong & Ella Fitzgerald: Stompin' at the Savoy
Oscar Peterson: Little Girl Blue

beauty bar, is well, a beauty

So last night i got home from work, almost fell asleep watching the woes of the world on CNN and ate. The last thing i thought i would be doing would be going to a bar in El Cajon...

But, thats how we do things these days, with only a limited time left here in California its time to throw off the shackles of reason and just go with the flow. And im glad i did.

I found the most amazing bar last night. The Beauty Bar. Now, upon further investigation this place is not an anomaly, which takes a little of the uniqueness and originality from it but, dang, what a fun place to go. The place is basically an old hair salon converted into a bar. But not just any kind of salon. Im talking about 50's style. Like the massive dome hair perm thingo's, checkered floors, chairs with ash trays in them, the works.... I wish i had taken my camera, but it was out of batteries. Rookie error.

We where there seeing one of my good mates play in his band Dynamite Walls and a pre-birthday bash for his girlfriend.

My friends, i wish i could tell you more but, and i wish what i just wrote had made more sense but my head hurts really bad and, guess what, i got a party to go to!

stuff

just realized everything looked a little dull here.... plus i have a major crush on polaroid film

new wolfie track?

What's in a name?

Wolfmother's LP was no joke one of the best things i've ever heard. Ever.

But we all know that the boys have gone there separate ways, but the signer, Andrew kept the band name and re-filled the empty positions....

So Wolfmother are back! But the question lies, will it still be Wolfmother? Or a strange spin-off?

Listen for yourself, right now on there website they are offering a free track download....

first one back, but, what's it all about?

I like writing to a pretend audience....

So, this is my first time back in blog-land since, well, the first time i got into blog-land.

I know these days everyone has one and its no longer "edgy" or whatever you want to call it to have a blog, but, its nice to know in this crazy old world there is a place where you can express yourself and then get to pretend that out there you have this audience, hanging off your every word, or perhaps offering a wonderful point of argument, or a view that you had not considered and get to learn that little bit more about human society.... Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy, doesn't it.

Y'see this is where I'm already getting anxious.... I want all of that, except, what the hell is going to be my angle? For those of you who don't know blogger, there is this section that you get to fill in under the main title of what ever your blog is called and you get to briefly describe just what yours is all about, and that is where my problem lies... Im not sure...

For about 2 days this is a question that has plagued me.

I want it to be an insight into what I'm thinking and a place where i can write and post things that matter to me. Or find and post things of what other people think and have done that i like and want to share with my pretend audience.

But its not a place where i want to get all serious and deep either, i'd like it to be fun and lighthearted with a wisp of sarcasm thrown in for good measure. After all, i want my pretend audience to keep coming back right?

See? See what i mean? I got no idea! There is almost too much to cover...

But i've come to realize that its probably the best way. Because out of nothing always comes something. Out of this crazy haze of a situation with things flying everywhere and wanting to turn left and right at the same time as going straight, somehow there is a moment of clarity...

So, thats the angle I'm going to take right now. The angle is there is no angle. And you know what? I think I'm ok with that. You guys take what you want from it and leave what you don't. I'll always be here to try again tomorrow... Unless it ends up like my first time....
